Siegel was a psychopharmacologist and research professor with the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at UCLA and dedicated work to Sheridan, specifically referencing him in relation to studies on drug culture and cases like "Dr. McDope".
Sheridan was one of the most prominent underground comics creators of the 1970s and early 1980s. He was the creator of Dealer McDope and collaborated with Gilbert Shelton and Paul Mavrides on The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers. “… Dr. McDope in Peru” appeared in The Best of High Times Comix, vol. 4 (1983). They were part of a creative circle that included artists like Robert Crumb.
