Petticoat Pilgrims on Trek.
Maturin, Mrs. Fred. Petticoat Pilgrims on Trek. London: Eveleigh Nash, 1909. First edition.
Octavo. [vi], 335, [1, blank], 12, publisher's ads. pages. Illustrated with a frontispiece, half-tone photograph of the author: "Sylvia". Publisher's brown cloth stamped in gilt, black and orange. Top edge gilt, others untrimmed.
From the Africana collection of renowned animal trainer Hubert Geza Wells who was active in Hollywood for more than four decades, and provided trained animals for more than 150 feature films, 200 television shows, and countless commercials. He created Animal Actors of Hollywood and trained and provided animals for features such as Out of Africa; Doctor Doolittle, and The Ghost and the Darkness. For many years, fellow accomplished animal trainer Doree Sitterly worked along side Mr. Wells, including with the animals on Out of Africa, and as a stunt double for Meryl Streep in the lion attack and other scenes.
General light scuffing and wear, corners bumped and with a little heavier wear. Endpapers darkened and foxed, ink date and a previous owner's ink inscription. At least a couple corners previously folded, and now creased. Overall foxing and toning to the sheets. Long tear to frontis at the gutter margin repaired with tape on the recto, Hubert Wells ink stamp to the bottom of the front free endpaper and the bottom of the title page. Still a very good attractive copy. HGW-585. Item #585
